What's New in Klarrity v2.4 — Free Every Day, Sign In With a Code

Klarrity v2.4 replaces the old card-required trial with something simpler: a free tier you can use for as long as you want, and a Pro plan you upgrade to only when you actually need more. Here's what changed, and why.

A real free tier, no card required

Every install now gets 5 flashcard generations a day, free, indefinitely. No credit card, no account required to start. You get question-and-answer cards, cloze deletions, and export to clipboard, CSV, or Anki. If you only need a handful of cards a day — for one class, one chapter, one YouTube lecture — you may never need to pay for Klarrity at all.

The old model asked for a card up front and gave you seven days to decide. Most people don't make that decision on day one; they make it after using a tool long enough to trust it. The free tier lets you build that trust on your own schedule, and it's why that trial window is gone for good.

Sign-in is just your email and a code

License keys are gone. Magic links are gone. To sign in, enter your email, we send a 6-digit code, you type it in. That's the whole flow — on any device, any time you need to reconnect your subscription to a new browser or a new machine. No key to dig up from an old email.

Anki export was broken for some installs — it's fixed, and it's free

Some of you were hitting a silent bug where the .apkg export quietly fell back to a plain CSV file instead of a real Anki deck. That's fixed in 2.4.0. And Anki export — .apkg, CSV, and clipboard — is free for every user now, not just Pro. We gate the parts that cost real money to run (AI generation past 5 a day, YouTube Study Klips, image capture); we don't gate getting your own cards out of the tool.

Pro costs less on the annual plan

Monthly Pro stays at $7/month. Annual Pro dropped from $59/year to $49/year — $4.08 a month, five months free against paying monthly. Pro adds unlimited generation (a 50-a-day fair-use ceiling most people never come close to), the Klarrify quiz-first diagnostic, YouTube Study Klips, image capture, and export to Quizlet, Notion, and Obsidian, on top of everything the free tier already includes.

If you hit today's limit, there's a one-day offer

Use all 5 free generations in a day, and Klarrity shows you an offer that stays open through the next day: $5/month for your first three months if you go Pro before it expires — the same rate our earliest subscribers still pay. It's not a countdown gimmick that follows you around; it shows up once, right when you've actually felt the limit, and it's gone the day after if you don't take it. After that, Pro is the regular $7/month or $49/year.

Why we made the change

A trial that asks for a card before you've made a single flashcard filters out exactly the people who would have become long-term users — the ones who want to try the tool on their own material first and decide from there. A free tier that works every day, with no expiration, removes that filter. It costs us more to run than a seven-day trial did, so we drew the line at 5 generations a day and kept the AI-heavy features (Study Klips, Klarrify, image capture) on Pro. Anki export moved to free because it's not the expensive part — the generation is, and holding your own cards hostage behind a subscription never sat right with us.

If you've been putting off trying Klarrity because you didn't want to hand over a card for a week you might not use, this is the release for you.
